Supporting Mental Health During This Pandemic

Rep. Lucy McBath

--

I hope you are doing well and staying safe.

May is Mental Health Month, and I wanted to take a moment to commemorate the importance of maintaining mental health in addition to physical health. Please know that whatever you are feeling, it’s normal and it’s important.

If you’re looking for ways to handle stress or anxiety, please consider these options from NAMI.

Increased periods of social isolation and disrupted routines can take a toll on anybody, but it can be especially hard for veterans or seniors who are living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. I was grateful to host a webinar on Wednesday with Dr. Jennifer Smith, Psychology Program Manager for Geriatrics and Extended Care at the Atlanta VAMC and Jill Disney, Senior Director of Program & Services with the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Both our guests provided wonderful presentations on how we can care for ourselves and our loved ones, with important support resources for caretakers and family members of dementia and Alzheimer’s patients.

You can find a recording of our webinar here.

I joined the Mental Health Caucus because I believe these issues matter, and during this pandemic I am working to get increased reimbursement for telehealth services to mental health providers and requesting that Congress provide funding for trauma-informed care initiatives.

Thank you for taking the time to read these updates. It is an honor to represent Georgia’s Sixth District. Please subscribe to my newsletter if you’d like to stay in touch.
